How TimeFeel works, step by step. Stuck on something this guide doesn't answer?
Write to meGetting started
TimeFeel shows how much time is left until the moments you are waiting for, and how much has passed since the ones you are counting from. Each countdown is a ring that fills as the day comes closer.
It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later, and on Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later. There is no account to create.
The first launch asks what you are waiting for and when, shows how long that is in hours and weeks, offers reminders, and lets you add a picture. Your first countdown is ready when it ends.
The tabs
- Countdowns — all your countdowns as cards, grouped by year or month. The gear at the top left opens Settings.
- Now — one countdown per screen, full size. Swipe up and down to move between them. It appears once you have a countdown.
- + — creates a new countdown from anywhere.
You can also press and hold the app icon and choose New Countdown.
Creating a countdown
- Tap +.
- Type a title.
- Set the Start Date and End Date. Tap a date to pick the day and time. Below the picker, Time Zone sets the city each date belongs to, so a flight can start in one zone and land in another. The total length is shown under the dates.
- Choose a direction:
- Remaining counts down to the end date.
- Passed counts up from the start date.
- Pick a colour or a photo, add reminders if you like, and tap the + at the top right to save.
The save button stays grey until there is a title, the end is after the start, and any photo you chose has loaded.
With no countdowns yet, the empty screen offers ideas such as Birthday, Vacation or Wedding. Tap one to start with that title.
Counting up from a date
To track how long it has been since something, choose Passed with a start date in the past. For something with no end in sight, such as days without smoking, tap No end date: the countdown only counts the time since its start, with no ring and no percentage.
Repeating countdowns
Tap Repeat to have a countdown roll on to its next date by itself. The choices are Hourly, Daily, Weekdays, Weekends, Weekly, Every 2 Weeks, Monthly, Every 3 Months, Every 6 Months and Yearly.
Custom sets any rule: every so many hours, days, weeks, months or years, on chosen weekdays, days of the month (such as the first Monday) or months. End Repeat stops it on a date.
The date you enter is the first occurrence. When it passes, the countdown shows as done for a short while (five minutes for hourly, up to a day for longer repeats), then moves on to the next one. Repeat works for countdowns that count down to an end date.
Colours and photos
Pick one of twelve colours, or a photo from your library with Plus. After choosing a photo, drag it to set the part that stays in frame; that framing is used on the cards, widgets, Live Activity and Apple Watch. Tap Remove to go back to a colour.
If a photo kept in iCloud Photos won’t load, check your connection and choose it again.
Countdowns from your calendar
TimeFeel can turn events from your calendar into countdowns. It reads your events only so you can pick them. Nothing is changed or sent anywhere.
- Import from Calendar, on the empty screen and during the first launch, lists your events for the next year. Tick the ones you want and tap the button to add them all.
- Take Event from Calendar, inside a new or edited countdown, sets the end date from one event, and the title too if it is still empty.
Birthdays and yearly events repeat every year by themselves, and birthday titles get a 🎂 and drop the age so they still read right next year. Events that repeat daily or weekly are not offered. If TimeFeel says it can’t see your calendar, allow Calendars for TimeFeel in the Settings app.
Reading a countdown
On the Now tab each countdown has a big ring and a live clock: “29d” with hours, minutes and seconds under it, or just the clock under a day.
- Tap the ring to switch between time and percentage.
- Touch and hold the ring to edit the countdown.
Now shows the countdown ending soonest first, then those with no end date, then those that have ended. A countdown whose start date is still ahead appears in the list but not on Now until it starts. When a countdown reaches zero, confetti plays the first time you see it.
Organising the list
The Countdowns tab sorts cards by end date. Each group has an Active and a Completed part. A countdown that is not repeating moves to Completed by itself once its end passes, with a full green ring.
Tap Filter at the top right to choose:
- Status — All, Active or Completed.
- Group by — by year or by month.
- Year — one year, when your countdowns span several.
Editing and deleting
Tap a card in Countdowns, or touch and hold the ring on Now, to open it. Every field can be changed. To delete it, tap Delete Countdown at the bottom and confirm. Its reminders go with it.
Reminders
Every countdown with an end date sends a notification when it ends. On top of that you can add reminders:
- In a countdown, tap Add Notification.
- Choose the kind: so many Days or Hours before the end (or after the start, for one counting up), or Done, when a percentage of the time has passed.
- Pick a value, or tap Custom to type one, then tap Add Notification.
Each reminder is listed with the time it will arrive. Swipe it left to remove it. Free countdowns can have one added reminder; Plus allows as many as you like.
Allow notifications when TimeFeel asks. If you said no, turn them on in the Settings app under Notifications › TimeFeel. Reminders are scheduled on each device, so they don’t need an internet connection.
Live Activities
In the final stretch of a countdown, it appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island with a ticking clock and a progress bar: in the last hour, or the last day for countdowns that span 30 days or more. Once it has ended, opening TimeFeel shows “Completed 🎉” there for a quarter of an hour.
Live Activities are free and need no setup. They start when you open TimeFeel inside that window, and they appear only for countdowns that count down to an end date. If none appears, check that Live Activities are allowed for TimeFeel in the Settings app.
Widgets
With Plus, put your countdowns on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen:
- Countdown — a small ring on the Home Screen, or a round or rectangular widget on the Lock Screen.
- Countdown Card — a medium card with your photo or colour, a progress bar, days, percentage and dates.
Touch and hold a widget, then Edit Widget, to choose the countdown, and for Countdown whether it shows time or percentage. Tapping a widget opens that countdown in the app.
Widgets update by themselves through the day, and right away whenever you change a countdown in the app.
If TimeFeel was already on your iPhone before version 3.0.2 and you updated it, widgets stay free on that iPhone. A new install, also on a new phone, needs Plus. A locked widget shows Unlock with Plus, and tapping it opens the Plus screen.
Apple Watch
The watch app shows the countdowns from your iPhone, one per screen. Turn the Digital Crown to move between them. Countdowns are created and edited on the iPhone.
Watch face complications are free: Countdown in round and corner sizes, with time or percentage, and Countdown Card in the rectangular size, with your photo or colour. Tapping one opens that countdown.
The watch gets its countdowns from the paired iPhone, not from iCloud. If it shows “No Active Countdowns”, open TimeFeel on the iPhone with the watch nearby, then open it on the watch.
Sync between devices
With iCloud on, your countdowns, photos and reminders sync to every iPhone and iPad on your Apple Account, through your own iCloud. Theme and Show Exact Time sync too. Photos can take a moment longer to arrive. Haptics and the delivery of notifications are set on each device.
Settings
- TimeFeel Plus — your plan; the Plus screen it opens has Restore Purchases.
- Theme — System, Light or Dark.
- App Icon — Classic, or Glass, Silver, Paper, Segments, Spiral and Party with Plus.
- Language — opens the Settings app, where each app can have its own language.
- Show Exact Time (hours) — shows the time of day under the dates.
- Haptics — the taps you feel, including the soft tick every second on the Now tab, a firmer one each minute and a knock each hour.
- Rate TimeFeel, More Apps and About, with the privacy policy, terms and the app version.
TimeFeel Plus
Free, you get unlimited countdowns with colours, repeats, count-ups, calendar import, Live Activities, the Apple Watch app and its complications, and one added reminder per countdown.
Plus adds:
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets,
- photo backgrounds,
- unlimited reminders,
- six alternate app icons.
Plus is a one-time purchase for life, or a monthly plan with a free trial if your Apple Account is eligible. The Plus screen shows the prices in your country.
Restoring Plus
Open Settings, tap the TimeFeel Plus card, then tap Restore Purchases at the bottom. Use the Apple Account you bought it with. If widgets still show the lock, open TimeFeel once.
Cancelling the monthly plan
In the Settings app on iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then TimeFeel. Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for. To avoid being charged, cancel at least a day before the free trial ends.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for. Your countdowns stay on your devices and in your own iCloud.
Do my countdowns sync between devices?
Yes. With iCloud on, countdowns, photos and reminders sync between your iPhone and iPad. Apple Watch gets them from the paired iPhone.
What is free and what is Plus?
Countdowns are free and unlimited, with colours, repeats, calendar import, Live Activities, the Apple Watch app and one added reminder each. Plus adds Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, photo backgrounds, unlimited reminders and six app icons.
Can a countdown repeat?
Yes. Tap Repeat for hourly up to yearly, or Custom for any rule, such as the first Monday of each month. When a date passes, the countdown rolls on to the next one. Birthdays from your calendar repeat every year by themselves.
Can I count up from a date?
Yes. Choose Passed to count up from the start date, or No end date to track how long it has been since something, with no end in sight.
Why are my widgets locked?
Widgets are part of Plus. If TimeFeel was already on your iPhone before version 3.0.2 and you updated it, they stay free on that iPhone; a new install needs Plus. After buying or restoring Plus, open TimeFeel once and the widgets unlock.
My countdowns don’t show on Apple Watch.
The watch gets countdowns from the paired iPhone, not from iCloud. Open TimeFeel on the iPhone with the watch nearby, then open it on the watch. A countdown whose start date is still ahead appears once it starts.
Why didn’t a Live Activity appear?
A Live Activity shows in a countdown’s final hour, or final day for countdowns of 30 days or more, and starts when you open TimeFeel in that window. Check that Live Activities are allowed for TimeFeel in the Settings app.
How do I restore Plus?
Open Settings in TimeFeel, tap the TimeFeel Plus card, then tap Restore Purchases at the bottom. Use the Apple Account you bought it with.
How do I cancel the monthly plan?
In the Settings app on iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then TimeFeel. Plus stays on until the end of the period you paid for. The lifetime purchase has nothing to cancel.
